for Aileen George

Here is a boy with two mirrors.
His arms are simple decoration
and cannot hold them.
He needs a mother,
a lightning conductor,
a pliant frame.

She must keep the mirrors perfect.
One crack or smear and
both reflections pool and sink.
He floats to the surface;
kicking her legs,
breathing her air.
