Dear Grandson
Perhaps you could think of your life
as a blank sheet of paper,
bound by sharp edges.
You would expect to encounter
murky patches and sunny splotches
like the vicissitudes of life,
over the whole page.
but in your case
I can see that it starts off
gloomy at the bottom
and gradually gets more and more cheerful
as it reaches the top.
Oh, remember this as you sit head down,
hunched up on the beach.
