Nebulous

I hear him sometimes, the sound of his bones.
How you can hear the sea in a shell. Surprised
at the fury of something so delicate.

I hear him
like laughter behind a closed door,
like screaming underwater.

But mostly I hear him in whispers
as my eyes close to another day
of listening, for words
that never come.
