B. A. France
Staring Down Trouble
unhappily
from under the wide lamb's ear
the turtle stares up
regardless of my tending
I am an interloper
later I watch her
meandering across wet
patio stones
my long gaze
in conversation with her tiny
elephantine legs
when under pressure
it always seems like they stare
even with interest
in the heat of the noontime
she teaches garden life lessons
