Scott Waters
20/20
After only 3 days visiting with relatives
in Crossville, Tennessee,
my son leans over a greasy diner table
and whispers,
"I feel so bad. I just caught myself
staring at an African American person."
This from an Oakland boy
with friends of every imaginable
skin color.
On the plane flight home,
I consider how quickly
he'll recover his normal vision,
when so many of us never will.
