Jennifer Chrystie's poems have been published in The Best Australian Poems 2012, Quadrant, Cordite and The Weekend Australian amongst others. Her two collections, "Polishing the Silver" (2006), commended in the FAW Anne Elder Award, and "Weight of Snow" (2013) were published by Ginninderra Press.

The Wheelbarrow

With a nod to William Carlos Williams

No trace of red on this wheelbarrow
A glaze of rain water has rusted
the yellow handles
No white chickens either

A white cockatoo in the plum tree
plucks the sweet fruit meant for breakfast
throws down a kernel to bounce off
the galvanised iron body

The plants it once carried
are now taking over
Nothing depends on this wheelbarrow
except a lone spider
