The Middle of a Run
Streetlights go by
as if on a reel. I pound my
feet into the tarmac.
The cars drive past, tyres
laugh at my rubber soles.
Sweat grows from my head
as if my brain is bubbling
like soup. I run with tendons
clenched between muscles.
My heart pumps more of myself
around less of my body. I'm shrinking
with each step, thinning like a morning.
