Your second hour

In my vision of your face drawn silent across a table
running with conversation, the compliments of everyone
saying how well you looked, you now lost,
unhearing and eyes outreaching, the scout look
amongst heads dipped in storytelling, I see the look
of your second hour of company,
the waver of your back stiffen and
the still of your lips that you will say the morning after
'get me out of here' an hour earlier.
Before the tumble down faint of your legs,
I'm taking you by the hand,
I feel your skin drum tight with flight
and my hand on yours no more comfort
than the rub of tree bark while your arms jerk away
a string puppet all tangled and twisted in waves of goodbye,
your mind tangled and twisted by memories of their compliments.
