Ed Granger
Cactus in a Clay Pot
Why not? Anything as tough to kill
as an honeymoon pic deserves a daily
second look, don't you think? So little
need for nurture; so much faith
in unseen moisture. A sickly shade
of green, perhaps - yet a prickly way
to seem tender by contrast. For years
we kept one on the kitchen sill, both
carefully surrounding it with our own
heart's desert. Asking nothing.
