The Last Quarter

the moon followed me home
one cloud-brindled night

laid shadows diffused
by singing planets

borrowed wings of an owl
and hastened the road

to my homing place
with keys from a maple

that I might open the door
to spectral whispers

then touch my fingers
against your eyelashes

pull tears in a rush
as you said the final words

while the moon turned full
with a long-horned kiss
