Chet Corey
The Oldest of Love Stories
Lucifer desired Eve
and wanted her to be with him
and so he gave her an apple.
But Eve couldn't lie
with him, and so she gave Adam
the apple after one saucy bite.
And he devoured it,
core and stem and all but the seeds,
which he spat out
to blossom into unharvested orchards
in the Edens of men's hearts
who desire the Eve in every woman
more before, than after their fall.
