Janeen Pergrin Rastall
An abandoned nest
rolling across the forest floor
stops upturned at her feet.
before stepping over it.
Tucked in the leaves on a bottom branch,
blueblack, surrounded by smaller berries,
only after popping it in your mouth
do you feel the ant
crawling out of the hollow
where it had been feasting.
Janeen Pergrin Rastall is recovering from a decade of writer's block in Marquette, MI. Her poetry has appeared in: 2River View; Short, Fast and Deadly and Halfway Down the Stairs.
