Lois Marie Harrod
There Is Never Enough
Though the heart be the vessel
pouring endless oil, the candle burning
without wax, the bush that consumes not
its thorns, there is never enough.
The mouth opens and opens, desire,
we give and give and are left
wanting, the joy that passes understanding
passes through and disappears.
Even Sister Teresa seems to have known
the black holes that nothing chokes.
