Slinging

As a child I amused myself lifting stones
heavy boulders they seemed to me

the normally pointless task of moving them
made sense by the rules of some invented game

with Paddy we slung mud from the banks of the leat
opening and closing sluice gates for effect

with Ant we charged down slopes on skateboards
and more than once nearly broke our necks

now I've grown up though and the rules have changed
it's not so fun anymore to sling lift and charge

and while stones have again turned to boulders
I'm not sure I can move them quite the same
