Lois Marie Harrod
Antidote for an Old Goat
There, tighten the slack tie
for the old pauper in the black tank top.
He's not dreaming the taste of glue.
Yesterday he was king of France,
today an old biker courting a bloated waitress,
face burrowing in the corners of her wet brassiere.
Tomorrow she will ride behind him
on that sleek cycle if he can just remember
where he put the keys.
