Comments on Eve Asks

Moments. We all have them. Those split second pauses where we know something, are in touch with something, and yet ... it's nothing that frames with words, with thought, nothing formal or constrained. In Eve Asks, Christine Redman-Waldeyer captures those moments, looks askance through them as if held just for a split second and paints it with feelings. Do not look for gargantuan scientific phrases, or terminology designed to intimidate the unknowing, for these are the words of humanity, the comfort of simplicity. You may pause between pages, you may close your eyes and think, dream, along with each piece. You will know the moments as if they are your own. From the wistful 'Wine Making' through to the self reflection of 'Masquerade', Christine is far more than a writer showing you her world. She reminds us that though we can look at things differently, though our perspectives on so many levels can be so individual, we are at the end all human, inside and out. The reader walks alongside her as she sees 'Faith' in a yard sale, goes through the strange thoughts of bereavement in 'Swans in Flight', the pain of parenting that never stops in 'Daughter' to the wondering of 'What if'. This is a slice of life - sideways. Enjoy. I did.

Christine Redman-Waldeyer launches the reader into the complexities of her mythical characters who are cleverly intertwined with poems of stark reality. "Eve Asks" is dotted with short snaps of bright poems whose brief images last long after the words have ended. Waldeyer takes us on a voyage of memories, travels, and haunting stories. The cumulative effect of this short collection challenges the reader to experience the people and events in one's life in a way as never before.
